Ethan Gorges Himself on: Fried EVERYTHING

If you ask me where I go most often in Japan, I would tell you Gourmet City, a supermarket about a 10 minute bike ride away that sells really good Bento-boxes for only 4 bux. What’s more, their sushi boxes go 30-50% off after 7pm (because Sushi go bad easily), so if I go late enough I can usually get like 20 pieces of sushi for just 5 bux. So for a poor college student like me with no kitchen in my dorm, Gourmet City is pretty much the best place ever and a straight up blessing from the gods. The gods of affordable college living that is.

The place has a huge section dedicated just for various kinds of takeout food. Right next that section is an impressive display of the various fried things. You know how you go to Japanese restaurants and they have stuff like shrimp and broccoli tempura? Yea, that, but with a much more creative selection of things being fried. And by creative I mean just different kinds of seafood, because you know, Japan.

Exhibit A. Truly one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Ethan Gorges Himself on: Bakery

Sorry guys; I totally promised a blog post last week and then didn’t deliver… Summer class finals kinda got in the way, and I didn’t have too much free time (or fast speed internet for that matter) until now. So here is the new food post, finally.
On a random day a week or so ago, I randomly starting really craving some bakerythinking about what to do for the next post, so I strolled into the biggest supermarket in the area and bought 7 random pieces of baked goods that are commonly seen in Japan. Because it was just a normal bakery, I wasn’t able to get the exactly calorie and nutritional information of each piece. Judging from how most bread is 300-600 calories a piece though, this is probably going to be twice as what I had last time.

Ethan Gorges Himself on: Icecream

I was walking through a 7-11 a week ago when I spotted some really weird ice creams. No, not matcha; that’s shit is normal as hell here. I’m talking about Carrot and Tomato flavored ice cream. Yes. Vegetable flavored ice cream, made by none other than Haagen-Dazs. I immediately decided that I need to try those, along with a bunch of other flavors that aren’t as common in the States. In the end I ended up getting 11 different kinds of ice cream, and ate them in one sitting, for your viewing pleasure.

Ethan Gorges Himself on: Pudding

I know how much you foodies and brunch queens like food, and I know how much more you like taking and looking at pictures food (looking straight at you, Asian girls), so here is a blog post dedicated purely to food! “Ethan Gorges Himself On” will be a series where I stuff myself with copious amount of Japan-related food and blog about it. You can enjoy all the pictures of food safely behind your computer screen, away from all the calories, while I slowly develop diabetes.

Why does this sound like an excuse for you to eat a lot of unhealthy food at once…

Wh..Whaaaaaat? Nah….Don’t be ridiculous…That can’t be….No way….I eat mad healthy….Yea….This is entirely for..em…Science! Yes! I’m doing this for science!

Right. Science. I’m totally convinced.

Silly reader, we both know I’m eating those puddings whether you like it or not. Now, lets get started.
